Crisis Zone is a spin-off of the Time Crisis arcade shooter series. In this game, players assume the role of Claude McGarren, an elite Anti-Terrorist trooper with the Special Tactical Force (STF), tasked with neutralizing a rogue terrorist group that has taken over Garland Square outside of London.
At the start, players can choose from three different stages. After completing a stage, they will proceed to one of the remaining zones, ultimately leading to a final special stage where they will face the final boss.
The game adjusts its difficulty based on player performance, offering a dynamic challenge. It uses the familiar pedal system from the Time Crisis games for reloading and taking cover. However, Crisis Zone introduces a new machine gun controller—a customized Steyr Mannlicher TMP with a laser aiming sight and a 40-round capacity.
As in the Time Crisis series, players frequently use the action pedal to shoot and hide. Additionally, they can take cover behind a portable riot shield strapped to their left arm.
